SQUISH has been managing the career of Roots Manuva for the last 5 years. During that time…there have not been many releases and there are very good reasons for that. Perhaps we can cover some of those another time. For this post, one year on, we are reflecting on the song, the video and the process of releasing So Jazzy. For the social media rollout, we enlisted the help of Krash Williams. Having seen the work he had done on his song Struggle Rapper, and knowing that he also makes his own videos, We thought he might make a good fit. We were not disappointed. On time in budget and bang on the money.He understood the brief and did not disappoint. He came up with a great concept of using the gramophone, which we thought was a touch of genius…and a nod to ‘the retrospective shall be respected’ lyric within the song. Nice one!

So as a first release for Roots Manuva on SQUISH Media. how did we do? They say every song is a business, but even with that in mind, the goal here was just to keep Roots Manuva alive in the public imagination, and to gift them some music we knew his fans would appreciate.. Roots Manuva already has a loyal fanbase, so that makes things a lot easier. Nevertheless. There is no room for complacency and we wanted and want more people who may have never heard his music to access it and to understand what a treasure the UK has in this unique artist. Knowing that he has been unwell, and that the last album project, Bleeds…really took a lot out of him…we have moved ahead cautiously. The artist needs time? The artist gets time!

Roots Manuva is back slinging slang. The reviews have been really positive so far. Less than a week after the release So Jazzy has clocked up over 7000 ‘organic’ views on YouTube. People have resonated with the track and the visuals. The retrospective shall be respected!
It’s been a while since Roots Manuva released new music. There have been the collaborations with Morcheeba, Ocean Wisdom and Cinematic Orchestra of course. However, since Bleeds in 2015, Roots Manuva has taken a step back from recording to focus on his WHY? Never one for convention.
So Jazzy video premiere will take place on 26th June 2021 at 1pm

There are many great learning moments in working with a client such as Roots Manuva, not least the varied an interesting places you get to go to and many people you get to meet…from all walks of life. Roots Manuva has collaborated alongside many great acts, and toured for 20 years with many musicians, toying with many line-ups.
For the Thailand campaign, we decided to add some keyboards to the mix. Introducing Abe Hampton: International Musician, Composer & Performer | Musician Vlogger | Hardcore Piano + Power Silences In this ‘gig economy…’ a term in itself, which takes its ‘cue from music,” musicians like other working professionals, are often multi-faceted. Abe is an amazing Keyboard player…but SQUISH Media, was very impressed by his upbeat attitude, stellar performance….and…his amazing photography, filming and editing skills. Clearly enamored with his kit, Abe filmed a 3 part series of the Thailand gigs on videos part filmed from his drone. A DJI Mavic Pro.
