Built around the irresistible refrain “I’ll Be Your Lois Lane”, “Superman” is a declaration of commitment before commitment exists. The song captures the moment when admiration turns into intention and someone decides to stop holding back and openly offer their affection, loyalty and support.
Through a series of vivid, relatable images, the song’s narrator promises to be everything from a “shelter from the rain” to a “voice of reason”, expressing a desire to become an important part of another person’s life. “‘Superman’ is about making yourself vulnerable enough to tell someone what they mean to you,” says Bastedo founder Alex Watson. “It’s about recognising the qualities you admire in another person and saying, ‘If you’ll have me, I’m here.'”
