SQUISH has been managing the career of Roots Manuva for the last 5 years. During that time…there have not been many releases and there are very good reasons for that. Perhaps we can cover some of those another time. For this post, one year on, we are reflecting on the song, the video and the process of releasing So Jazzy. For the social media rollout, we enlisted the help of Krash Williams. Having seen the work he had done on his song Struggle Rapper, and knowing that he also makes his own videos, We thought he might make a good fit. We were not disappointed. On time in budget and bang on the money.He understood the brief and did not disappoint. He came up with a great concept of using the gramophone, which we thought was a touch of genius…and a nod to ‘the retrospective shall be respected’ lyric within the song. Nice one!

So as a first release for Roots Manuva on SQUISH Media. how did we do? They say every song is a business, but even with that in mind, the goal here was just to keep Roots Manuva alive in the public imagination, and to gift them some music we knew his fans would appreciate.. Roots Manuva already has a loyal fanbase, so that makes things a lot easier. Nevertheless. There is no room for complacency and we wanted and want more people who may have never heard his music to access it and to understand what a treasure the UK has in this unique artist. Knowing that he has been unwell, and that the last album project, Bleeds…really took a lot out of him…we have moved ahead cautiously. The artist needs time? The artist gets time!
